Boston MA Mover - How to find and hire a Mover in Boston MA
Boston MA Mover - How to find and hire a mover in Boston MA
The purpose of this guide is to help you find and hire a mover in Boston MA. There are many Boston MA Movers but how can you distinguish the good from the bad. I will help you get through your Boston Moving experience.
First Off - Moving to Boston MA is like moving nowhere else in the USA. Many people relocating from other "new" states like Florida and California will find Boston architecture and road configurations quite humbling when moving in Boston. Many of the Boston apartments and condos alike have only stairs leading to the beautiful penthouse views as they were mostly built before elevators were mandatory. How will this knowledge help you consider different moving companies in Boston?
1. You will need a Boston moving company with experience - hire a company who has moved in Boston for over 10 years - they are most likely familiar with your building and the area in which you are moving to. They will know if you need a parking permit or not and they will be able to tell you the best times to move.
2. Choose a mover with air ride trucks. Many Boston streets are either cobblestone or full of potholes. In this city, a UHAUL truck will not do. Your moving boxes and furniture will be displaced with one bump.
3. Many fly by night movers in Boston will hire temporary summer labor from other countries or temp agencies. I highly suggest using a mover company in Boston that has their own labor. Temp agency workers and summer workers that are here on a 3 month visa have no obligation to do a great job and often they don't speak english well. This is very frustrating when you are trying to tell your crew where to put things. It adds time to the bill which equates to money.
4. Avoid hiring movers that charge additional fees. Additional fees are stair charges, fuel surcharges, taxes, tolls, mileage fee, elevator fees, long hauls, etc.
Here is a checklist to ask your moving company - compare it with the others and make a final decision:
1. How long have you been in business - ask if this is the date registered with the DOT. Many movers will tell you they have been in business longer than they have to book a move.
2. Are you licensed and insured?
3. What are the rates? Any additional fees? Get this in writing - ask for an email so you have record.
4. Ask for customer reviews - most movers have a review site button on their main web page.
5. Do you hire temporary labor?
6. Do you have your own air-ride trucks?
